Diego Gisbert Llorens - Daigotsu Yutaka
So funny story on this fellow, he had the trait “Dark Accountant” or some such, I decided he was the most evil tax attorney in Rokugan. So evil he got around both death and taxes so naturally he needed an abacus. I had actually wanted an abacus of some sort to show up as they are pretty amazing tools and anyone who did taxes in the Empire surely would have used one.
Jason Juta - Daigotsu Yamato
Yamato is my favorite Spider in this set. The reason for this is simple, it was an inspiration. We had struggled to find a look that we felt would help define Daigotsu samurai. We hoped that perhaps a style sharper, more Oni like as if the Samurai’s gear mimic a demon that would get us to a better place for the look. Yamato hit it spot on, Jason exceeded our hopes and we knew this was the vein we wanted.
The Shadow Dragon - Genzoman - So I waited a little to post this fellow. He has stirred some emotions both positive and negative. Steve and I felt from the start Genzo needed monsters and specifically he did really good serpent and dragon style characters. So the Shadow Dragon came along, as a massive province eraser and we thought we’d let him have a crack at it. We went through some modifications and coloring changes, striving for a view of the Shadow Dragon showing up, erasing a town and vanishing. It’s not the traditional Shadow Dragon view, we know we tried something new and you’re the judge. Enjoy.
The Spider Clan Strongholds
The Ancestral Sword of Hantei - Steve Argyle
Steve did a Japan trip last year and came back super excited to draw swords on display. So he snagged this and really had fun with it. The Red and Green auras are the Blessing of Hantei and the Blessing of Daigotsu all in one blade. Held up by obsidian Spider statues on the sides the Saya, Suba and Suka are on display separate from the blade its self. He had a lot of fun with this.
He also made sure it was a particularly large sword almost no-dachi size as that’s how Drew Baker always drew it back in the hands of Daigotsu.
Goju Gochiso - Troy Graham
Troy is a great guy cause he plays the game so he tosses in things like a shadow brand on our Goju. Who was he before? A Shosuro maybe? Love this guy we wanted to convey a big powerful Goju they often look like starving refugees as far as stature goes and we liked the idea of who ever this one was before he was a Goju he was a big guy.
Love the hanging lanterns and the wisps of shadows.
Daigotsu Takayasu - Andy Hepworth
All grown up now we wanted to highlight the vocal power he had, show him off in the thick of the jungles battling horrid monsters to stake a claim out for his clan. Andy did about 5 versions of various poses with the anaconda monsters which I might try and post here if I can dig them up.
Daigotsu Tenbatsu - Franz Vohwinkel
Franz likes a lot of freedom, we told him this fellow was a bonkers prophet who reads entrails of enemies to divine the future. Worked out pretty cool. The large amount of white worked out nice as a death/weirdo vibe.
Daigotsu Kazuko-Lee Smith
We had Lee go for a Spider and his men exploring some of the Colonies ruins in this one, I ended up liking the look of the character, he shows up in some future sets in action cards.
Suigihara - John Donahue
Tigers Claws are the weapon we went with, or as the forums say he is like Wolverine, wasn’t really the intent. What we wanted to show some Spider Kensei out in the jungle and that those who did not stay in the Empire have had some changes to their normal outfit. We also wanted to show off a body messed up from years of surviving battles. I think we accomplished all those goals pretty nicely.
