Mario Wibisono - The Egg of Pan’Ku
Since the art has already been spoiled I figured I’d toss this fellow up. We wanted new art for the egg but wanted still to capture some of it’s old flare.
Mario Wibisono - Shinjo Tselu: Mario asked to do a male character. I know I was as surprised as you are. The detail as always is just amazing, we really focused on making sure he looked masculine as Mario and I are both aware of his strengths and weaknesses.
Jake Murray - Moto Ming-Gwok: Obelisks are just fun and cool looking and have been an under current within Death Priest themes. With his Open action I wanted to have a more contemplative moment for the illustration.
Michael Phillippi - Moto Xin: We saw Xin’s fallen madness as him running around in his great grandfathers armor taking vengeance for all perceived slights ever made against his family.
Adam Schumpert - Kimori Miyano: Adam provided to great sketches for this piece and somehow when they were showing off the sketches to everyone someone showed off the other one rather than the one we had chosen to go with so that is why he doesn’t look the way he was spoiled as.
Heather Kreiter - Tsiang: Heather and I had been talking about this piece for a while actually as she draws little old men fantastically. We’d wanted to slot him for a while and Tsiang’s description worked so well for him he found a home there.
Alberto Tavira - Typhoon Surge: Water beats fire if water gets to fire fast enough is the moral of the story here.
Shen Fei - Thunderous Legion: Rawr lots of imperial troops…I got nothing pretty straight forward piece.
Mario Wibisono - Asako Izuna Exp
While Arare might be a psycho, Izuna is a villain and not against using torture with the air kami to get the job done. We imagined her shredding her prisoners skin thin slice at a time and sucking the air from her lungs in a bit of ancient “air boarding” to extract information. She’s a massive jerk really is what we were getting at.
Mario Wibisono - Fubuko
I was tired of not seeing female spider Kensai so I tossed it to Mario. We’ve been affectionately calling her the battle nun. Her description was basically to have her being a whirling dervish of death and blades.
Mario Wibisono - Ikoma Aimi
Aimi changed a bit in the design process but her core idea of being a powerful courtier sensei was the focus. As a fan of the RPG I’ve always liked how court is every bit a battlefield as a military conflict, so for Aimi I wanted her playing shogi to show off that she is a courtly tactician she thinks many moves ahead and perhaps uses games as a method of teaching her pupils.
Also it’s a Mario piece so it’s also amazing looking.
Mario Wibisono - Utaku Chikako
So we have plenty of powerful Battle Maiden peices out there. But given her ability and my need to slot Mario I went for a calm moment before the battle. Her armor being there was important to me, I wanted to see the samurai at rest before the storm. I hope she gets an exp, I want her in her armor next time.
